Heat Pump Frequently Asked Questions
What is a heat pump?
WA heat pump is very different to a traditional boiler. Instead of generating heat, it moves heat from outside to inside. This heats water that then circulates in your central heating system, providing heat for your radiators or underfloor heating. It works on electricity, and uses a lot less energy than a traditional boiler.
How does a heat pump work?
A heat pump is essentially a large fan that takes heat from outside and brings it indoors to heat your home. It works a lot like a fridge in reverse, but instead of pushing hot air out, it brings it inside. This is very different to a gas boiler, which generates heat by burning gas. Heat pumps generally operate at lower temperatures to a gas boiler, so you may need to make some adjustments to your home to accommodate this.
Are heat pumps noisy? Heat pumps are not noisy, but they do generate some noise from the fan when they are operating. If your heat pump is very noisy, this could be a sign that something is broken or you need a heat pump service.
What type of heat pumps do you install? We are Vaillant Advance installers, which means we can install Vaillant heat pumps. We primarily offer air source heat pump installation, as this is the most popular with UK homeowners.
How much does a heat pump cost? Costs will vary depending on the size of your home and your chosen heat pump. We can help you to navigate the process of choosing the right heat pump for your home.
Are there any grants available for heat pumps? Yes, the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) will allow you to claim up to £7,500 for your heat pump, installation and changes to your central heating system. We can help you to navigate this claim to ensure you can make the most of this offer.
Are heat pumps expensive to run? Heat pumps run on electricity, so they can be much more cost effective to run than a gas boiler. You may need to make changes to the way you heat your home in order to make your heat pump as efficient as possible.
